Bernard Beck - Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer

Bernard Beck

Bernard (Bernie) Beck is responsible for Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance and oversees the Compliance, Credit and Internal Audit Departments. In his role as Chief Compliance Officer, Bernie ensures that the company and its employees meet and exceed the industry’s legal and compliance requirements in every jurisdiction of operation.

Bernie brings to this critical role an in-depth knowledge of legal compliance and a long history of overseeing financial propriety.  He has set up the company’s anti-money laundering and privacy compliance programs and has guided Custom House through stringent regulatory and capital markets licensing requirements.

During his 25 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Bernie worked as a Senior Investigator and, later, a Commander of the Federal Unit of the Commercial Crime Section. While with the RCMP, Bernie headed complex financial investigations and worked in joint operations with federal law enforcement agencies throughout North America, Latin America and Europe investigating criminal organizations for fraud, drugs, money laundering, and proceeds of crime.

Following his retirement from the RCMP, he joined Deloitte & Touche as Vice President and Director of Forensic Investigations for British Columbia.  His extensive background also includes developing regulatory compliance processes and systems.  Bernie consulted on matters concerning regulatory compliance to securities dealers, credit unions and foreign exchange dealer firms.

Bernie is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics and of Royal Roads University with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
